The ocean is home to countless marine animals! From the biggest of animals like the blue whale to the smallest like phytoplankton, the ocean provides a home to these creatures that regulate life on Earth and sustain ecosystems both on land and in the water! Did you know that only around 5% of the ocean has been discovered? That means the ocean could be home to many more species we have yet to discover.
LIFE
The ocean provides life on Earth! Terrestrial and aquatic life depend on the ocean. Providing oxygen, water and other resources, regulating global climate, absorbing over 90% of the heat from the sun, and supporting many life cycles to name a few, life on Earth simply would not exist without the ocean. As they say, water is life; literally!
IN DANGER
Unfortunately, the ocean is suffering. Overfishing, pollution, rising global temperatures, exploitation, insufficient marine protected areas, depleting marine life, etc. are all current issues the ocean is facing. The ocean is in danger more than ever in human history. We all need to pitch in to save our oceans!
